Commercial Fluid Power can
help with your Charpy
test requirements.
Charpy impact testing is a
standardized test which
determines the amount of
energy absorbed by a
material during fracture.
This absorbed energy is a
measure of a given
material's toughness. This
test is often used as one
factor in determining a
material's suitability to be
used in a cold weather
application.
This test was developed in
1905 by the French scientist
Georges Charpy and was a key
component in understanding
the fracture problems of
ships during the early
1900's such as the Titanic.
Today this is a common test
for cylinders.
An impact test consists of a
pendulum axe swinging at a
notched sample of material.
The energy transferred to
the material can be
determined by comparing the
difference in the height of
the hammer before and after
a fracture.
ASTM
E23 which is the "Test
Methods for Notched Bar
Impact Testing of Metallic
Materials" and ASTM A370
which is "Standard Test
Methods and Definitions for
Mechanical Testing of Steel
Products" these standards
contain details needed for
certified impact testing.
Commercial Fluid Power can
meet your material
certification requirements.
Mechanical testing,
chemistry, impact and
corrosion resistance testing
are just a few of the common
material certification
