Trepanning is the process of machining a circle through a solid bar by means of a cutter using either indexable or brazed inserts.  This trepan operation yields a tube and a usable core.

 

Commercial Fluid Power has several options to put a hole through a solid bar.  Depending on the finish diameter and length requirements trepanning is one of the more economical choices for the customer. 

 

There are several advantages for the Customer when it comes to trepanning. One advantage of trepanning is that this operation yields a core.  This core can be used for material analysis or for the production of additional parts.  This advantage becomes increasingly important when trepanning expensive material grades. 

 

Another advantage of trepanning a solid is that it requires less horsepower than a solid drilling application. This means higher production rates then conventional driling. This adds up to cost savings and quicker turn around times to the customer.
